Future project

MTP Secondary School

A planned second secondary school in a host community in Hoima City, with JEP from S1 and a Studio on campus from day one.

Planned. A long-term plan, subject to funding and the decision gates in SXLA's plans. The necessary resources and partners are being sought to meet the planned timeframe. Stay tuned for updates.

What it is

A second school, built around JEP from the start

MTP Secondary School is SXLA's planned second secondary school, in a host community in Kyentare, Hoima City.

Spectrum grew into the 360° JEP Studio over several years. MTP Secondary School is planned the other way round: designed from day one around JEP and a campus Studio, teaching the national curriculum from S1 to S4.

Planned. A long-term plan, subject to funding and the decision gates in SXLA's plans. No costs, fee levels, enrolment or staffing numbers are published for this plan.

The necessary resources and partners are being sought to meet the planned timeframe. Stay tuned for updates.

What makes it possible, the 360° Studio: people, knowledge and resources, tools and technology, the learning environment, and feedback and evidence, all supporting the learner at every stage.Select to enlarge

Campus concept

The proposed campus concept

The planned campus as the Founder has set it out. The image at the top of this page shows the MTP Secondary School side of the campus.

What the concept shows

  • A boys' hostel and a girls' hostel
  • A sports complex with a playing field and running track
  • Classroom blocks
  • Science laboratories
  • A library
  • Administration buildings and the main entrance, shared with MTP Academy

MTP Secondary School and MTP Academy share one campus, with the administration buildings and the main entrance between them. The MTP Advanced Academy side or see the whole campus.

Design approach

The campus is intended to be climate-responsive and practical to build and maintain locally: local materials, shaded walkways, trees and landscaping for shade, solar power and rainwater harvesting.

The image is a proposed campus concept, not an existing building and not a final design. No capacities are set by it. Any real design depends on a site survey, funding and the decision gates in SXLA's plans.

The plan

What it will look like

  • Where

Kyentare, Hoima City, in a host community.

  • The campus

MTP Secondary School will sit on 5 acres together with MTP Academy.

  • First phase: MTP Foundation, 2029 to 2030

Land, a perimeter wall, Block A classrooms and a Standard Hybrid Edge JEP Studio, with furniture, equipment and systems.

  • First intake

    Planned for 2031.

  • What learners study

S1 to S4 national curriculum, with JEP from S1.

Sustainability

How it is designed to last

  • Sustained largely by local fee income

90% of learners pay standard fees, so the school is designed to be sustained largely by local fees.

  • Scholarships for 10% of learners

Half for refugees and half for host-community youth, 80% of them girls.

Every step depends on the gates in SXLA's plans. In SXLA's development pathway, the MTP campaign starts only after Spectrum is fully funded.

Value to learners

What learners would gain

  • A full secondary education with JEP from S1, and a Studio on campus from day one.
  • A pathway towards the MTP Advanced Academy for those who are ready.
  • Scholarships that open places to refugees, host-community youth and, above all, girls.
Value to the community

What the community would gain

  • Secondary school places close to home.
  • Teaching and support jobs.
  • A campus Studio that is planned to host community learning sessions.
  • A school sustained by local fees, not by outside funding alone.
Infrastructure and reach

How the Studio reaches further

A Studio on campus also connects MTP Secondary School to SXLA's wider model of hubs, mobile studios and partner schools.

How the Studio reaches every school: an SXLA central hub prepares content and kits, mobile studios travel as complete kits, and each studio serves four partner schools. Learning continues offline.Select to enlarge
